NEW ORLEANS -- The New Orleans Hornets are “going pink” to help in the fight against breast cancer.

The team is encouraging fans to show their colors and wear something pink to the Oct. 21 preseason game at the New Orleans Arena, WDSU NewsChannel 6 reported.

The team said $5 from every $15 ticket and $10 from more expensive tickets will be donated to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation. The first 8,000 fans will receive pink pom-pons supplied by Adidas.

“Our annual efforts to help raise breast health awareness through our Pack the Hive in Pink theme night are extremely important to the entire Hornets organization,” said Denise Shinn, wife of Hornets owner George Shinn. “Breast cancer affects so many people, and we are committed each season to show our support for this cause.”

Breast cancer survivors will be featured at the game, which will incorporate the color pink in various ways.
