Damon Singleton

Damon Singleton, "the Commander," is a native New Orleanian, a graduate of St. Augustine High School, a Surface Warfare Officer, and a 22-year veteran of the U.S. Navy. He has traveled the world as a crewmember aboard the USS CORAL SEA (CV 43), an Engineering Officer on USS CONSTELLATION (CV 64), the Navigator and Electrical Officer on the USS MERRILL (DD 976), the Operations Officer on USS MOUNT HOOD (AE 29), and Executive Officer of USS LASALLE (AGF 3). During his career he participated in EARNEST WILL Escort Operations of reflagged Kuwaiti Tankers; Operation PRAYING MANTIS, President Reagan's measure response to the Iranian mining of the USS SAMUEL B ROBERTS; Operation SOUTHERN WATCH enforcing the no fly zone over Southern Iraq; Operation RESTORE HOPE in Mogadishu, Somalia; and Operation JOINT GUARD supporting Joint Task Force SILVERWAKE operations in the former Yugoslavia among others.

"The Commander" rose through the ranks in the Navy and held critical leadership positions ashore and at sea including Deputy Director of the Policy and Strategy Deputy Directorate of the U.S. SOUTHERN COMMAND where he worked for the current Chairman of the Joint Chiefs General Peter Pace, Executive Officer and Second in Command of the USS LASALLE(AGF 3), and Executive Officer of the Navy ROTC Unit at Southern University and A & M College in Baton Rouge.

Damon spent a good portion of his career tracking weather across the Pacific and Indian Oceans, adjusting his ships track on many occasions to avoid severe weather and tropical cyclones and determining ocean temperature versus pressure gradients use to determine the most effective way to utilize sonar systems to detect submarines. His degree in Meteorology is from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas. He also holds a Master's Degree from the United States Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.
